GRADUAL PEELS

Because deep peeling is so uncomfortable and lightens the skin so much, other types of peels have become increasingly popular in the last decade. The most popular among our patients has been the Biomedic micropeel, which sneaks up gradually on the benefits of a medium depth peel, producing a more youthful, healthier looking skin without the discomfort and social disability of the more radical chemical peels.

Several of our own staff members have been specially trained in medical-level skin care and can explain the advantages of this program.

SKIN SANDING

Skin sanding (dermabrasion) used to be a very popular procedure for acne scars and facial wrinkles. It is used less frequently today because laser treatments are more common. Sanding is still helpful for some types of acne scarring, but patients are often disappointed that the scars (which go through the full thickness of the skin and extend even deeper than the skin) cannot be completely removed.

After sanding, the texture of the skin is smoother, and darkening or lightening in the sanded area may occur. The crusts come off completely in a week or two and, in the interim, can he kept soft with some antibiotic ointment.
