WHAT IS COSMETIC SURGERY?

Cosmetic surgery is simply surgery designed to improve ones appearance. Most of these operations fall into fairly well-defined categories. The most common operations minimize facial aging (a facelift, for instance), change body contours (tummy tucks and fat suction), change the shape or size of the breasts, or alter facial features like the nose, eyelids or ears.

FACIAL SURGERY

Facelift (Rhytidectomy)
Rejuvenates the aging face, especially in the cheek and jowl areas, the neck and jaw line.

Forehead/Brow Lift
Smooths the "worry" lines in the forehead and raises the brow to provide a more youthful, energetic appearance.

Nose Contouring (Rhinoplasty)
Refines the shape of the nose to complement other facial features.

Eyelid Lift (Blepharoplasty)
Enhances the appearance of the eyes by removing excess skin and fat from the upper or lower eyelids for a more refreshed, alert look.

BREAST SURGERY

Breast Enlargement
(Augmentation Mammaplasty)

Increases the size of the breast while enhancing the breast contour.

Breast Reduction
(Reduction Mammaplasty)

Decreases the size of the breast and corrects sagging.

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
Eliminates the sagging commonly seen after pregnancy or weight loss. Gives the breast a more appealing shape and contour.

BODY SCULPTURING

Liposuction
Removes excess fat from the abdomen, hips and thighs. Also used successfully on the neck.

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
Tightens the sagging stomach that can result from aging, pregnancy or weight loss.

FACIAL SKIN REJUVENATION

UltraPulse®
Wrinkle Removal Laser

This revolutionary new laser actually shrinks skin and makes lines disappear.

Facial Peels and Freshening Peels
Rejuvenates sun-damaged skin, reduces blotchy pigmentation, and decreases wrinkles.

Skin Maintenance Programs
Our "Biomedic" gentle peel program can reduce further skin damage and prolong the skin's rejuvenated appearance.

ARE THERE RISKS INVOLVED?

There are risks, of course, but in our experience these risks have been greatly exaggerated in the minds of most patients, Because cosmetic surgery is usually performed on patients in good health, and because these operations have been improved by generations of plastic surgeons to be as safe as possible, the risks associated with cosmetic operations are usually much less than with other types of surgery.
Risks in surgery can never be completely eliminated, however, and risks in cosmetic surgery are no exception. An incision in the skin always leaves at least a fine scar, and although usually not noticeable, it may spread or enlarge in some cases. Infections are rare but can occur, as can bleeding under the skin. Temporary bruising is common, but not serious. Drugs can cause allergies and other problems even when used carefully.
Aspirin, and drugs like aspirin, are particular problems because they thin the blood and can cause postoperative bleeding, Aspirin or similar drugs generally should not be taken for about three weeks before surgery.
